Primitive in Dub

Primitive in Dub is a project that does renditions and improvisations of selected parts of Primitive reason songs in a Dub-Reggae style, taking the role of a selector that cuts favourite parts and re-assembles them in an improvised form.

The birth of Primitive in Dub

This project was born from the desire of its members to not only honour Primitive Reasons long list of songs that include Dub sections which could very well be great songs by themselves, but also to create a live Dub project that uses inspiration and improvisation as it’s weapons of choice, with rotating members filling in and sitting out to create a dynamic line-up.

Created to counter-balance Red-Shield‘s Dub remixes of Primitive Reason songs, Primitive in Dub’s focus is live improvised performance as an art-form in itself, contrary to studio cutting, slicing, dicing and mixing.

You can expect to hear releases from Primitive in Dub within this very year.

No practice, no planning, no fear, NO MERCY! is the motto for Primitive in Dub.

On the 25 of March @ about 10pm Primitive in Dub performed at the opening of Guillermo de Llera’s live Art and Music Exhibition to a host of art-lovers, big drunks, friends and their kids, who took over and turned the improvised concert into an interpretative dance show.

I’ve enjoyed Primitive in Dub let’s go home

[T]heXL Experience @ the LX Factory is now over, leaving me with mixed feelings about the entire experience. As all BIG things go, they are often difficult to digest and take their time to be processed. Yet once again I leave an Art Exhibition with a fountain of information about the whole art Scene, the business, the types of visitors, viewers and buyers, and the nature of the game in general. Needless to point out (but I will), I was once again given less-than-perfect conditions with which to ply my trade, and I did just that, working quietly on my art day after day, receiving the visitors and buyers and telling them all about the different stories behind the different art series’ present, and projecting future endeavors.

The opening day was a blast, with a Primitive in Dub performance rocking the house and making all the children let loose to the groove. So after setting up and settling in (see pictures below), I begun mixing the new Primitive Reason demo, as well as started work on a few new projects: Red Shield, We Cut Hand and The Black Arrow. Slowly previews of these projects will trickle down the grapevine as they mature into wine ;) .

I leave you with the first images:

Description of the event:

From the 25th of March until the 10th of April 2011 Guillermo de Llera was present at the “Sala das Colunas” at LX Factory in Lisbon, Portugal, spearheading an exciting new project.

LX Factory invited Guillermo to transform the 450m2 room into an open art and music studio, where he exhibited his art and music projects as well as created and developed new projects ‘on-the-fly’. For 16 days the “Sala das Colunas” was his personal workshop and gallery, and he was granted absolute freedom to create whatever projects he wished to pursue there during that time, in whichever art-form he deemed fit.

It was an organic, alive form of exhibition, that was always changing and growing as it drew from those that visited it. Everyone was welcome to share ideas and participate.

On display There were paintings and pieces from the following series and collections:

  1. The Golden Trees
  2. The First Wave
  3. Outside Looking In (debut)
